Essential Oils

Oh boy, February is almost here, I'm so excited for this year and everything in store. I've been working on various projects on the side, if you follow me on Insta - you may have seen my long, rambling mom-brain of a post about me and everything we have going. One of those I'm sharing with you here, because health and wellness go much deeper than the food we eat and how often we exercise - health is mental, physical, emotional and everything in between, and essential oils cover all of it.

Essential Oils have become such a huge part of our life, they are a total game changer for us, and I wanted to share with you why & how we use them in our home.

Around the time Emerson was born, Aria wasn't feeling well - the kind where she was up all night, with Seth and I taking turns rocking her, attempting to prop up her bed, deciding if we could give her more motrin and battling using the snot-sucker to clear her airways. I became so frustrated with her feeling so awful, I reached out to a good friend of ours for some sort of advice or help. 9:00 at night, she came over to our house with a diffuser and a little bottle of RC and gave me the lowdown on how it all works. Add water, a few drops of oil and let it work it's magic. 30 minutes later we were all in bed. We were all able to get some sleep and Aria was able to rest & recover. I couldn't believe it. What is this oil? What else can they do? I wanted to know more.

Overall, being a mom, I was tired of terrible sleep, I wasn't handling stress well, and constantly felt run down & could never relax. I knew about oils to some extent - I went through massage therapy school after high school, but never felt like I knew enough to start using them. I was looking for options for health and wellness and to get my mood balanced again. I'd been seeking out alternatives to so many products that contained so many harmful chemicals.

I decided to order my essential oil starter kit with Young Living (all of the most commonly used oils + a diffuser) and start navigating my way through using them. I was cautious at first, and felt like I spent quite a bit of time researching & asking questions, but now, we can’t live without them!!

I still very much believe in modern medicine, and this is not a substitute for that, and I don’t make my own deodorant or anything 😉 (but I did test out some awesome DIY dry shampoo!) and we have plenty of products in our home that aren’t necessarily all natural. (I'm sorry - I would die without hairspray).  But oils felt like the right step towards a healthier lifestyle for us and our girls.  For example, supporting our immune systems with Thieves oil, or encouraging relaxation and better moods during witching hour with Stress Away. And Lavender & Cedarwood do wonders for good night’s sleep.  I love homemade body scrubs for the shower (grapefruit for me, eucalyptus for Seth) - which supports healthy skin & smells like a dream!! My favorite thing besides diffusing them is a homemade oil rollerball - we use these for teething, sleep, shifting to a more positive mood and even post-workout.

Gentle Babies, is a great reference book for using oils while pregnant, nursing or around babies, since there are a few oils that you can’t use or must dilute.

If you don’t already use oils & are interested, YOU CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT THE STARTER KIT HERE. Or feel free to email me if you have any questions at all! I'd love to walk you through and help get you started.

I'd love for you to come join us over at my oils instagram @happymamaessentials where I have covered our favorite ways to use each of the oils in the starter kit, and plan to share all of our favorite diffuser blends, what I use on the girls, recipes for your diffuser, sugar scrubs, rollerball recipes & so many other amazing things that you didn’t even know you could make!!!

I hope you’ll join me & I know you’ll love it as much as we do!
