Recap | 10,000 Kettlebell Swing Challenge

4:04 PM

June has come and gone (I don't know where - but it did!) and we're down another 10,000 swings. I'm not entirely sure I would have finished if it weren't for this incredible Facebook group who kept me motivated and driven to finish this grueling program!

Knowing what I was going into helped immensely as far as how to approach each workout this time. There is quite a mental aspect to this program.. grinding through each set of 100 can be tough- especially when you're in the 300-400 range and know you have another one to two hundred reps to go.

Another factor that varied from the first 10,000 was my kettlebell weight. Previously, we had a 44# KB, which happened to be the lightest weight one in our garage - so that's what I used. We no longer have that KB; instead we have 26 and 53 pounders. Being 8 weeks postpartum with no real core strength going into this, I chose the 26#.

The first few workouts kicked my butt.. Some days were harder, others felt pretty easy. I changed up the rep-scheme more frequently during this challenge to see if that would yield similar results, and to prevent 'workout boredom', which I personally succumb to pretty easily.

Sample rep schemes included sets of:
25-25-25-25 x 5,
35-15-35-15 x 5
100 x 5
50-50-25-25
50-50 x 5

On the other hand, we did have several members of the FB group who stuck with the original programming, including the indicated rest time of 1 minute between short sets - who had incredible results.

6 weeks vs 12 weeks postpartum, baby #2

Because I needed the remainder of her half-eaten pancake..

This month we're onto the squat challenge. Be sure to join the group! We have members from all over the world, all supporting and cheering each other on.

If you try this program, be sure to comment at the bottom and leave your feedback, I'd love to hear it!

  1. Hey!
Just stumbled upon your blog by chance. I have never tried the kettlebell before but would love to give it a shot, although the challenge might not be up first, while Pavel's Simple & Sinister is probably a good way to start.
Anyway - great blog, great entries and thank you for sharing your story! Might even come back to this post once I have finished the challenge myself next year. The/your results speak for themselves. Congrats!
